This beautifully crafted paddle, by renowned Musqueam Coast Salish artist Martin Sparrow, is carved from natural wood and adorned with incised designs highlighted in traditional red and black. The blade prominently features an ancestral human-like figure at its widest point, with a powerful Orca figure depicted below it. The Orca, a significant being in Coast Salish cosmology, represents family, power, and the spirit of the sea, often seen as a guardian or a transformed ancestor. These potent symbols, rendered in Martin Sparrow's classic Coast Salish style, tell a story of deep connection between humanity, the animal world, and ancestral spirits. An authentic piece that embodies cultural heritage and the rich artistic traditions of the Musqueam people.
