Service Description

Our canning smoked fish workshop is a hands-on, experiential learning opportunity that teaches participants the traditional methods of preserving fish through canning and smoking. Led by Elder Martin Sparrow, a master fisherman from the Musqueam Nation, this workshop offers a chance to learn about the sustainable food practices of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm people and the importance of using resources in a respectful and responsible manner. During the workshop, participants will have the chance to learn about how to harvest fish from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm waterways, prepare the fish for smoking, and learn the techniques for canning the smoked fish. This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn from an elder and gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of food and how it has been traditionally prepared by the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm people.
